The problem: Locked in #wewillgather HQ during launch month, the team hadn’t seen or spoken to the neighbours for a while.

What happened: A ‘zocalo’ – a Mexican tradition, via Brighton – so with an English twist. The ask is simple – will neighbours step outside their front door and share cups of tea and cake?

After setting up an event on #wewillgather and promoting it to the street’s Facebook group, ten adults and nine children turned out, and a few passers-by stopped to chat too. Neighbours had made cakes, and shared pots of tea.

What’s happened since: The neighbours have continued to talk more, and are planning another event. There is discussion about making zocalo regular.
