The problem: The old Steyne Bookshop has been boarded up and derelict for many years. The steps had become overgrown with bushes and weeds, making the building look even worse at street level.
What happened: #wewillgather’s first call to action asked for people to help clear the steps of vegetation. Three people came (volunteers from nearby shops Arena Menswear and Lads & Dads Barbers) and in about 15 minutes, cleared the steps. The beautiful steps of this historic building look a little smarter.
What’s happened since: Occasional weeding since has kept down new growth. The building may be derelict but it is in a prominent location, on a main road into Worthing, so keeping it tidy creates a good impression for visitors. The shops are proud of their involvement and still talk about the small action
